High School Science Teacher

Job Title: High School Science Teacher (Biology, Environmental, & Physical Science) 
Position Type: Full-Time 

 

Job Summary 

The Brighton School is seeking a dynamic, full-time science educator who is genuinely excited about working with high school kids. As a school dedicated to teaching students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences, we look for teachers who understand that all students can learn when given the right tools.  

We want someone who wants to turn science upside down and is willing to dream what it could be. We are looking for a highly creative teacher who is eager to take science out of the textbook and put it directly into the hands of students through experiments, field work, and project-based learning. In this role, you will ignite curiosity and foster deep understanding across our Biology, Environmental Science, and Physical Science courses using powerful, multi-sensory techniques.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Experiential Learning: Shift focus away from standard textbooks by designing hands-on, multi-sensory experiments and immersive field work. 
  • Project-Based Instruction: Implement creative, project-based learning units that challenge students to solve real-world problems.
  • Core Science Courses: Deliver an engaging full-time curriculum for High School Biology, Environmental Science, and Physical Science.
  • Skill Integration: Embed critical executive function skills (planning, organization) and learning strategies into daily science routines. 
  • Differentiated Approach: Tailor science concepts to match student strengths and unique learning pathways in small class settings.  

 

Qualifications 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Secondary Education, or a related field.
  • Certification: Valid Louisiana State Teaching Certification for High School Science (Grades 9-12 preferred).
  • Mindset: Passionate, visionary, and creative, with a strong desire to innovate standard science curricula.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience or training with Orton-Gillingham methods, multi-sensory learning, or teaching students with learning differences is a major plus.

Music Teacher

Job Title: K-12 Music Teacher (Vocal Emphasis) 
Position Type: Part-Time 

 

Job Summary 

We are seeking a passionate, part-time K-12 Music Teacher to lead our vocal-focused music program. You will inspire students through singing, music theory, and introductory instrumentation. This position is ideal for an educator or retired educator who excels in choral direction and creative, resourceful classroom music instruction. Please note that our campus does not feature a traditional band or orchestral program due to space and budget configurations. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Vocal Direction: Lead engaging vocal music instruction and choir programs across all grade levels (K-12).
  • General Music: Teach foundational music theory, rhythm, and notation to elementary and middle school students.
  • Introductory Instruments: Introduce students to basic melody and rhythm using recorders, handbells, and auxiliary percussion.
  • Performance Coordination: Organize and direct school concerts, seasonal showcases, and community performances.
  • Curriculum Design: Develop a creative music curriculum that maximizes our specific resources and vocal focus. 

Qualifications 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Vocal Performance, or a related field required.
  • Certification: Valid State Teaching Certification in Music (K-12 preferred).
  • Skills: Excellent choral conducting skills and piano accompaniment skills preferred
  • Experience: Prior experience teaching multiple age groups is highly valued.
