Student Care
A student’s academic performance is influenced by many factors both in and out of school. Brighton’s student care program is designed to support the academic, social emotional and executive functioning growth of all its students.
The program’s goal is to help our students develop a strong sense of self, learn self-advocacy skills, and a clear understanding of their strengths in and out of the classroom. In addition to working with the student population, our student care team is available to provide support to parents and teachers.
Social-Emotional Learning in the Classroom
Elementary students receive high-quality Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons daily. Through engaging and age-appropriate instruction, students explore a wide range of topics, including:
- Recognizing and responding to social cues
- Problem-solving and coping with anxiety
- Understanding others' thoughts and emotions
- Managing and regulating their own emotions
Our SEL program empowers students with the tools they need to build positive relationships, communicate effectively, and thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Advisory
Students in grades 6th-12th have a weekly Advisory period, where they engage in small-group sessions with a faculty advisor. These sessions focus on developing executive functioning skills, strengthening social-emotional awareness, and fostering a sense of belonging within the school community. Our staff believes in fostering student independence while providing necessary support and guidance. Advisory groups create a safe, inclusive environment where students build meaningful connections and experience both growth and fun.
Individual Counseling
Our school counselor is available to speak to students individually by student, parent, teacher, or counselor request. These sessions are short-term and solution-focused to address any academic or personal/social needs. If there is a need for ongoing therapeutic services, the counselor will assist the family with referrals to mental health providers in the community.
College and Career Counseling
High school students and families receive information on postsecondary options and application procedures. Throughout the year, Brighton facilitates college recruiter visits, Career Day, college field trips, and other postsecondary awareness events.
Teaching students the way they learn
We are a school that is dedicated to students who have dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. We believe that ALL students can learn. It’s a matter of how the instruction is given and the support that is available to push students to their potential.
