Music

Brighton has a vibrant and growing music program where every student has the opportunity to receive the therapeutic benefit of listening to and learning about the wonderful world of music. Students learn to read music and are invited to explore vocal training as well as piano instruction.

Students who have struggled with self-confidence and communication skills often find new success through our music program. Through music, students explore creative expression while learning teamwork, perseverance, and the value of hard work.

Elementary

Elementary students take music classes twice a week for 30 minutes. In addition to group singing, they also learn how to read music playing Orff and Kodaly instruments such as handbells, recorders, and rhythm instruments.  Elementary students perform for various celebrations throughout the school year such as the Thanksgiving Feast, Veteran’s Day, and Grandparent’s Day.

Middle School

Middle School students have the opportunity to choose choir as an elective. They may also join the Choir Club.  These classes continue music education with a deeper dive into beginning piano, ukulele, percussion, and choral singing.  Students learn to work within both large and small ensembles performing seasonal songs and music from various genres.

High School

High School students are invited to take Choir as a full-year elective.  They receive more advanced instruction in choral music through large ensemble, small ensemble and solo performances. Students also learn music leadership skills as they assist with the music and rehearsals of the Brighton Choir Club.

Art

The art program at Brighton is designed for every student, regardless of skill level. Our courses provide opportunities for students to explore the elements and principles of art while expressing themselves both visually and verbally. With a curriculum that builds on prior knowledge each year, students develop their artistic abilities in a supportive and engaging environment.

Art education goes beyond creativity—it enhances critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Through planning, designing, measuring, cutting, and sculpting, students strengthen their visual-spatial awareness and fine motor functions. Most importantly, art provides a space for relaxation, self-expression, and joy. We believe art serves as a powerful outlet, helping students connect with their emotions and express ideas that words alone cannot capture.

Elementary

Elementary students receive art instruction twice a week for 30 minutes, where they learn the basic elements of art and begin to explore principles of design through different mediums. Our young artists engage in collaborative projects, seasonal crafts, and sometimes interdisciplinary art experiences to connect art to other subjects.

Middle School

Middle School students have the option to take a general art elective, meeting daily for 50 minutes. This course builds upon foundational art skills while introducing more advanced techniques, creative independence, and critical thinking.  Students refine their skills and gain confidence, preparing them for specialized high school art courses.

High School

High School students can enroll in Art I, Art II, Art III, and Honors Art, with classes meeting daily for 50 minutes. These courses provide students with a deeper, more specialized artistic experience. Students refine their techniques, analyze their work, and explore personal artistic interests.

We are a school that is dedicated to students who have dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. We believe that ALL students can learn. It’s a matter of how the instruction is given and the support that is available to push students to their potential.
