Sylvia Melancon, PhD

Dr. Melancon is a Lafayette native who holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Psychology from the University of Louisiana Lafayette and a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Resource and Leadership Development from Louisiana State University. Dr. Melancon worked for many years in higher education, state government, and as a consultant in areas of training, workforce development, performance measurement, and management development. She is currently the Director of Business Analytics for the Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities within the Louisiana Department of Health. As a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Dr. Melancon facilitates data-driven process improvement strategies. Dr. Melancon has served on numerous boards and committees. She currently serves on the Dyslexia Association of Greater Baton Rouge Board of Directors, the Louisiana Chapter of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, the Department of Education’s Special Education Advisory Panel, and the Ladies of the Cathedral Board of Directors. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Baton Rouge and a workplace mentor for the Big Buddy Program. Dr. Melancon previously served on the Board of Directors for the YWCA Greater Baton Rouge. Dr. Melancon is a 2018 recipient of the Charles E. Dunbar Award, which is the highest honor for a classified civil servant. She is married to Dr. Girard Melancon and has two children. Their daughter is a middle school student at The Brighton School.
