Rachel Harvey joined The Brighton School faculty in January of 2024. She studied Music Education and Music Performance at LSU and also holds a Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Dyslexia Therapy from The University of Southern Mississippi. In addition to these degrees, she is a Certified Academic Language Therapist.

While at LSU, Rachel was a proud member of the Tiger Marching Band’s clarinet section and participated in the university's “Reading Buddy” program, tutoring students in underserved communities.

Rachel brings a wealth of classroom experience from her time teaching in both East Baton Rouge Parish Schools and Ascension Parish. She was honored as Teacher of the Year in Ascension Parish for the 2021-2022 school year. In addition to her work on school campuses, Rachel has been selected to present on the topics of language, literacy, and mathematics at the Louisiana Department of Education's Teacher Leader Summit and the International Dyslexia Association Conference. She is trained in multiple Orton-Gillingham based dyslexia programs including Brainspring, Paragraphology, The Association Method, and Take Flight.

When she is not working, Rachel can be found playing clarinet with the Baton Rouge Concert Band, serving at First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge, or in “The Most Magical Place on Earth” in Orlando, Florida. Ms. Harvey is dedicated to creating and maintaining an environment where children are treated with dignity and respect while growing to reach their full potential.

 

We are a school that is dedicated to students who have dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. We believe that ALL students can learn. It’s a matter of how the instruction is given and the support that is available to push students to their potential.
