Students Practice Social Skills

Preparing our students to succeed inside and outside of school involves the development of the whole child.  This means we help them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.  It is important for our students to understand how to be a positive and productive member of the community.  To aid this development, we provide intentional instruction paired with ample opportunities to practice social skills.

This past week, our students learned and practiced the art of the handshake.  This is an important life and communication skill.  We want our students to be able to communicate effectively.  It is crucial to learn when and why handshakes are given as well as how to give a proper one.  After modeling a proper handshake, students discussed how handshakes should look and feel.  They discussed the various components of a good handshake and lastly practiced these components while greeting their peers.
