Janell is a versatile teacher with a wide range of teaching experiences. Janell joined the Brighton elementary division in 2017 as a third-grade teacher. Janell looped to fourth grade with her students and eventually, that class included fifth grade students as well. Currently, Janell teaches sixth grade in our Middle School. Prior to coming to Brighton, Janell began her teaching career in the East Baton Rouge Parish Public School System in 2002, where she taught grades pk-5. She also taught for three years at Sacred Heart of Jesus School in both preschool and 4th grade. Janell earned her Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in Elementary Grades 1-8. In 2005, she earned her early childhood certification. Janell earned her Montessori certification from North American Montessori Center in 2009, and six years later she earned her Master of Special Education from Northwestern University. Janell believes a differentiated, hands-on, systematic approach best supports children’s development. She believes in supporting students to help them develop a growth mindset.
